NOW we’re getting somewhere – it’s spring time! A time for sun. A time for rain. A time for….mud. Yet, we are undaunted. It’s going to take a hulluva lot than mud more to keep us die-hard gardeners away from the soil. So, it’s also time for a Kaymen boot giveaway by Khombu!
Remember how I talked about the winter boots love of my life (Highland by Khombu) in February on Blissfully Domestic.com? Well, this awesome boot company kindly sent me a pair of Eggplant-colored Kaymen mud/muck/rain boots to try out, too. These puppies are comfortable, stylish, and super-de-duper durable. I have no idea how you could do them in even with a lifetime of gardening.
Anyway, Khombu wants to give you a pair to help you get into the garden this spring! Here’s all I want you to do. Can you just leave a comment telling me what new-to-you flowering plant that you plan on growing in your garden this year? Just throw out something new that you’ve been wanting to try. On Friday, April 8th, the chiweenie will draw a winner and we’ll send you a free pair of forever mud boots!
By the way, that picture was simply a photo op. In no way am I suggesting that you stomp around your Greek oregano’s roots like this image seems to suggest. Don’t do that.

Great boots!
I LOVE gardening and this year I am going to grow some Zinnias for the first time. Just bought the seeds and I can’t wait.
I plan on trying hollyhocks and I am planting a hummingbird garden to attract pollinators and bebuficials to my garden. Im hoping to make it a wild life habitat by fall!
Just one?? LOL
I’m trying this year a Camellia sinensis – which is a flowering Camellia but is also known as a tea plant – I’m gonna have my own tea!!!!
I live in the Sacramento valley and work at the UC Davis campus. Rudbeckia grows surprisingly well in these conditions, it’s hardy and beautiful…hopefully that won’t change when I plant it this year!
This year I am adding to the garden area located at the base of an outcropping,by the swimming pool, Penstemon! It will be planted amongst the Echinacea and Gallardia that already exists there. I’m hoping to plant it in shades of red and pink to bring a pop of color during those days of Summer spent around the pool. It’s water wise and will look great!
I’m growing Hollyhock and Foxglove for the first time in my garden. Excited!
I am planting nasturtiums and for the first time, Texas Bluebonnets. I was also given some Camellia seed by a sweet elderly lady. I am not familiar with camellia seed, but I’ll give them a try! : )
Calendula. Planted some seeds under my citrus trees and am hoping I don’t accidentally rip them out when I’m weeding as I’ve never grown them before.
I am going to try marigolds in my veggie garden this year as I hear they keep away pests!
What an awesome giveaway! Well, this year I’m trying Red Orach to go in my salads- I guess you can steam it too, like spinach. There are also other varieties like Gold Orach- I plan on trying that one too when I can track it down
. I’m anxious to taste it!
I’ve just plunked a packet of borage seeds around the veggie boxes to behave companionably with the tomatoes and basil. Supposedly, the flowers taste of cucumber. I’m enjoying scrolling through your archives.
I’m new to gardening so this year I’m hoping to plant some Lilacs and Violets, I think they’re just beautiful!
I am trying a bunch of new things. Nasturtiums in the flower garden. Strawberries & blueberies in our new fruit garden area. And in the veggie garden, potatoes and tomatillos will be new additions.
I also grow marigolds for the same reason- what I would really like to plant is hydrangeas (sp) I don’t have any planted and I am hoping hubby will make an arbor for my garden this year and intend to plant morning glories in purple/blue and some of those cotton candy hydrangeas on each side. We are redoing our roof this year and hoping to get everything done- oh and Iowa has 6 seasons- winter/mud/spring/mud/summer & fall (also sometimes mud but not always)
I’m working on a decorative edibles garden. Just planted sone beautiful purple asparagus for the first time.
I am trying some maragolds this year. Going to see what they can do for me.
My two little girls read Miss Rumphius with their grandmother and want to grow lupins like the character in the book. Hopefully they don’t drop them everywhere they go, like Miss Rumphius! I will have a blue lawn!
Amaranth! I bought a bouquet that had some Amaranth in it, and fell in love. I’ve been waiting all winter to plant some.
Well, I’m not sure this qualifies because it’s not a flowering plant, but I’d really like try growing Swiss chard as an ornamental becus of the vivid colors in the stalks. i saw it on someone else’s blog and it looked quite nice.
I’m excited about planting mountain mint. I hear that it’s blooms attract beneficial insects to the garden. I’ve started several plants by seed, and they will be ready to plant next week.
We have always bought Nasurtiums, but we are growing them from seed this year! And we have several new types of herbs and medicinal goodies this year. Wormwood, calendula, comfrey and lots of others
Oooooh, cool boots! This year, I’m adding medicinal flowers and herbs to the garden. Calendula, here we come!
I love a good pair of gardening boots! This year I will be adding heirloom poppies to my garden!
New varieties of easy-to-grow roses! The best color all season! They’re way easier than you think! And, I need the cool boots to protect my bare legs from the thorns!
I’m planting a floral herb garden, and I’m most excited about growing chives. My mom had a pot of them when I was growing up and I always thought they were beautiful, even before I knew they were tasty too!
The chiweenie has done right by me in the past! This year we are planting wax currant (Ribes cereum), and I am excited to see how they do. Come on chiweenie, my wife would love some new garden boots!
We always have a vegetable garden every year and we plan on adding flowers this spring! I would love to plant more herbs than last year! We hope to add mint, thyme and oregano!
Fried Egg Plant (Gordonia axilarus). Bought it at a local plant sale, the flowers fall to the ground and look like fried eggs. I can’t wait!
And I sure could use some good rain boots. It’s been dry in Houston so far this year, but when we get rains, they are gully washers.
My new addition this year is okra. I was given some seeds and have decided to see if I can get them to grow.
I’m expanding the perennial beds and adding some climbing roses. I have some shrub roses that do well but I’d like to plant these over a pergola.
I’d love to try Gaillardia – I’ve seen it around here and it seems to grow well, plus I love the fun colors!
What gorgeous boots! Warm weather comes so early where I live that I have never tried to grow spring pansies. This year I planted them for the first time and hey are growing great!
I just found out this year, about the Camellia Sinensis. It’s a TEA plant!! I’m totally excited, and they are supposed to grow well here in Oregon… I bought two. Hopefully there will be enough money next paycheck to buy at least ONE more…
Going to plant some more Columbines this year!
